4 Basic Travel Tips for Your First European Journey

IMG_2992

Ireland

As many of you know, I recently got back to the United States after a trip to Europe. We toured Ireland, Wales and England for what seemed like too short of a journey. Travel lust has set it in and I’m already planning a future backpacking trip in Wales.

A few travelers in our group had never been on a plane, much less out of the country. It’s nerve wracking, yet exciting, to be doing something you’ve never done before. So, I decided to let you all in on a few basic travel tips that help you during a trip overseas.

  1. Don’t forget your passport. Yes, I know. This seems self explanatory, but some people do forget. Also, while your traveling from hotel to hotel, or country to country, make sure you always keep your passport in one place. A friend on my trip forgot her passport at one of our hotels. It happens. Make sure to keep a copy of your passport at home or with someone you trust.
  2. Mo’ money, mo’ problems. One subject people always ask about is money. Please don’t convert dollars to euros or pounds before heading overseas. The conversion rate is staggering. Wait until you get to an airport ATM to draw out cash (there are ATM’s everywhere, don’t worry about access). Also, many credit and debit cards work overseas. I would recommend Capital One or Visa .
  3. Safety first. Some travelers are so scared of pickpockets that they don’t enjoy walking through a city. Be vigilant of your surroundings, but make sure to take in the atmosphere.
  4. People are people. A girl we traveled with told me her greatest fear was not fitting in overseas. Traveling is a perfect way to see that all people eat, sleep and breathe. Don’t be scared to ask questions of the locals, or to travel a little outside your comfort zone. Most people are willing to give directions and tips about their city.

I hope these basic tips help you in planning your next adventure. Let me know where you’re going in the comments below!

The 3 Types of Spring Breakers

Warning: As always, satire has been utilized in the writing of this post.

beach-1839742_960_720Whether your Spring Break already happened, or you’re anxiously waiting for Friday to roll around, Spring Break always comes at the perfect time. Let’s see which kind of Spring Breaker you are…

The Gone Wild Version of Jersey Shore – Well. You know who you are. These are the students that spend more money on alcohol than lodging, food and transportation combined. They tape 40 oz. bottles to their hands, take jello shots off random strangers stomachs, and get new tattoos of Lucy the Mermaid. Gym, Tan and Alcohol is all they live for. Also, they don’t remember most of the week.

The Future Stay at Home Parent – Whether you are just really broke or need a restful week, these are the students that just want to go home. They live in pajamas 24/7, eat all the cheese puffs and binge watch Netflix like there’s no tomorrow.

The Dedicated Driver –  Oh, this person is a hero. Whether by choice or default, they make sure no one gets any crazy ideas about jumping off a hotel balcony to try and land in the pool 20 stories below. They guide, drive and hold the bag for when their overly drunk friends decide it’s time to get sick. Yay.

Which one are you? Do you fit into multiple categories? Let me know if the comments below.

All y’all have a safe Spring Break now you hear?

Rebecca Reviews: Rosy VoxBox

Welcome to the first installment of Rebecca Reviews! If you’re like me, you do your research before buying anything online. For example, I just spent 3 hours reading laptop reviews (update on that later!) I always want to make sure I’m getting the highest quality for the best price. This is why I love Influentser.

Influenster sent me a box full of free items to review. The box, called the #RosyVoxBox, included so many wonderful products. Let’s get to reviewing! All opinions are my sassy self’s own.

Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant – This smells AMAZING. It smells like heaven in deodorant form. I struggle with finding the perfect antiperspirant. So many brands out there streak, only work for a couple of hours, or they smell terrible. After a 24 hour test, Clinical Strength still smelled amazing, didn’t leave any streaks and worked all day long. Do you need a deodorant that can take you from work to the gym and back home? This works.

Fancy Feet by Foot Petals – Fancy Feet sent me ball of foot cushions. They are slid into heels or flats to cushion the sensitive ball of foot area. To be honest, these were a bit of a mystery to me. I hate wearing heels, so I rarely wear them. These cushions were confusing and didn’t stay in place as promised. Disclaimer: I am very active and move around a lot even in heels. These might work for those who tend to sit during the day.

Vera Wang Embrace – I received two sample scents from Vera Wang. The first perfume  is Periwinkle and Iris. It came in this pretty blue package that reminds me of summers spent in South Carolina. This scent is subtle and smells like my grandmother’s herb garden; soft and full of sunshine.

The second scent is Green Tea and Pear Blossom. I love fruity aromas and this packs a punch. Perfectly balanced, this fragrance is ideal for summer days spent in sundresses. Both of these odors are gorgeous and delicate. They will last for hours and won’t disappoint.

Purell Naturals – This is a lifesaver. I work two jobs outside of school. I’m an intern and I babysit for a few families on a weekly basis. This bottle has a lock-top, which means no spills in my purse,  and kills 99.9% of germs. For all my fellow nannies, sitters and child-care providers, you need this! It’s made of natural ingredients and is safe for all classrooms, car rides and doesn’t spill. Don’t get sick my friends.

“Can you get more natural than this?!”- me

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Sea Salt Spray – THIS. I use Not Your Mother’s products on a weekly basis (dry shampoo anyone?) and was ecstatic when this came in the mail! I’ve used the sea salt spray before and absolutely adored the smell. Then, I cut my hair. So I decided to post my review of this product on my Instagram story. Check it out here. The spray is perfect for creating quiet waves, the perfect ‘do for a casual night out.

My hair smelled like I dipped my head in the ocean. I’m in love.

After trying all of these products, I smell like a coconut flower goddess. I keep sniffing myself. Sorry if that’s too much information, but I’m feeling myself right now.

Have you tried any of these products? Leave a comment below and let me know what you think!

Guide to St. Charles: Part One

St. Charles Guide

Happy International Women’s Day! Today I’m celebrating being a #BossBabe and my hometown of St. Charles, Missouri.

St. Charles, Missouri is located alongside the Missouri River. It is known for being Missouri’s first capital and for being a campground along the Lewis and Clark exhibition. I was born here, raised here and love everything this town has to offer.

Over the course of the next few months, I will be posting small guides about St. Charles. I’ll tell you all of my favorite places to eat, drink, and shop. Today, I’m going to let you know where to buy my favorite macaroons, the best burger joint, and where to get the best pizza (because who doesn’t love pizza…)!

Best Macaroons // Sucrose Bakery

IMG_1037

Macaroons pair perfectly with a cup of tea and a good book. Sucrose Bakery on 5th Street is known for these fabulous desserts. I highly recommend the vanilla and raspberry. The vanilla is sugar perfection. Flaky on the outside and creamy on the inside, this is an indulgent confection. Their raspberry macaroon is the quintessential blend of tangy and sweet. I could eat their raspberry jam for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a midnight snack.

Best Burger Joint // JJ’s Restaurant

IMG_1046 (1)Part diner, part burger joint, JJ’s is my go-to for comfort food. They have the best burgers, loaded fries and adult milkshakes (alcohol included). I highly suggest the Frisco melt, the A1 BBQ or the bleu cheese and mushroom burger! They offer a varied menu from chimichangas to turkey wraps. For all my fellow students: They are located about 3 minutes from Lindenwood University and offer a student discount! If you’re stressed out from finals, work or just need a break, JJ’s is the place to go.

Best Pizza // Tony’s on Main

IMG_1038

Excuse the Snapchat picture. I was too excited to eat. Thus, no proper picture was taken.

In high school, I rarely ate pizza, but recently my  friend got me hooked on the wonderful delicacy of the original Italian pie. If you’re looking for deliciously gooey and cheesy pizza, adventure on down to Tony’s on Main Street. They offer a wide variety of toppings and top everything with provel cheese. Let me repeat that. PROVEL cheese. If you’re not from the greater St. Louis area, you’ve probably never heard of this perfect creation. Provel cheese is highly processed, creamy and best of all it’s the best cheese you’ll ever eat. My favorite is a pie topped high with vegetables and lots of provel.

I hope you enjoyed the first installation of the St. Charles guide. Do you have any suggestions on where to eat, drink or shop in St. Charles? Do you have the perfect Saturday activity? Send them my way! I’d love to put them in the next blog post.

xx,

Rebecca
