Recharge Your Soul

“I wish, as well as everybody else, to be perfectly happy; but, like everybody else, it must be in my own way.” – Jane Austen

Earlier, I was sitting at my kitchen table sipping green tea and thinking about life. Over this past week, I’ve thought about my future more than I ever have. Trying to decide what job to pursue in what city is a daunting and thankless task. What if I chose wrong? What if I don’t end up on God’s chosen path for me? How do I make a decision about my future when it feels like God is on silent mode?

To take a break from all this thinking, I escaped to the library. I returned those books I had already read and spent half an hour perusing the bookshelves. The public library is one of my favorite places. A sense of peace and  quiet immediately calm your thoughts as you walk into a building full of tales. The books call out with stories unread, begging me to take them off the shelf, dust them off and learn something from the words inside. It’s comforting to go to a place filled with other’s stories, both fiction and non-fiction.

I choose books based on my mood. Last week, I felt invincible and curious. So, I picked up a few mysteries. (If you’re looking for a good mystery, try anything by Janet Evanovich.) Today, I felt lacking in inspiration, so I picked up a few adventure and romance tales. The covers are so bright and I like the real-life lessons they use as touch points. Emily Griffin’s novels always leave me with a sense of hope for the future. It’s crazy how someone else’s story can be so motivating.

My mom calls me a voracious reader. For me, books are a major source of inspiration. All my fellow binge watchers out there are familiar with that feeling of loss after finishing your favorite show on Netflix. That’s how I feel after finishing a well-written story. I want more!

My point is that everyone needs something to recharge their soul. What’s your inspiration? What makes you feel like you can conquer the world? Whether it’s reading, working out, calling up your mom or cracking open your Bible, inspiration is out there. Whatever it is, find it, use it and follow wherever it takes you.

Be perfectly happy. Be Perfectly Happy in your own way.

Feel free to drop me a note and let me know how you find your inspiration.

xx,

Rebecca
